Abhorrent Traditions—–Christmas

Over the centuries the Church has picked up a lot of dirt, like a snowball rolling across a gravel pit.  Many of our erroneous beliefs and traditions began shortly after the death of the Apostles.  Those leaders who followed in the steps of the Apostles were faced with a constant and persistent attack from false teachers and heretics.  The “push back” was valiant, but TIME and the “Father of Lies” were not cooperative.  By the third century, there were so many corrupt teachings and customs that it was a stroll through the park for the Roman Emperor, Constantine the Great, to merge PAGANISM into Christianity, Church with State, and a complete transformation was well on its way.  With rabid antisemitism assailing the Church, every semblance of our Jewish root was driven from our thought and practice.

Whereas  the Lord’s Table had previously been celebrated yearly in the DAYS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD, the Church turned the corner toward Romanized practices following the harsh treatment of those who persisted in orthodoxy.  Nearly all succumbed to Roman pressure and the Lord’s Table became institutionalized in “Holy communion”.  Power drifted upward and away from the local assembly to ROME.  Christianity was quickly transformed from a “faith” to a CULTURE, and remains so today.  The Lord’s Table at Passover was shoved aside and EASTER took its place.   “CHRIST MASS” soon replaced the detailed account of Luke 1-2-and 3 regarding the birth of Christ—-never mind that Luke held emphatically that no other teaching was known in all of the Churches than that which he revealed in his gospel [Luke 1].

For two centuries following the crucifixion of Jesus, there was never a time when the Churches celebrated Christ’s birth. Even though there were many in the earliest Church who knew well when Jesus was born. Mary [the mother] certainly knew. James [the brother] certainly knew. The New Testament records that Jesus had several younger siblings, certainly they knew, and yet, not a word, either in scripture or in secular historical records. Haven’t you ever wondered why? Don’t you understand that it is not the BIRTH of Jesus that was celebrated, rather, “HIS DEATH till he comes”

BORN IN DECEMBER?

In the fourth century A.D. there existed tension and strife between the growing  Church of Rome, and the religious factions of more ancient sources.  Most of those ancient [pagan] religions can be traced all the way back to Babylon.  In an effort to quell outbreaks of violence between the religious factions of Rome, Constantine [emperor of Rome] sought to minimize conflict by merging religious celebrations, and traditions, into a compromise acceptable to most.  Because the Church in Rome had already reached the point of apostasy from their first century beliefs and practices, it was no difficult task to accomplish the transition.  It is in the nature of man to call that which is good, “evil” and likewise to call that which is evil, “good”.  And so, the transition from orthodoxy into Catholicized Christianity began.  The exchange of the Lord’s Table at Passover for Easter, the exchange of Tabernacles [Succot] for Christmas,  The exchange of immersion [baptism]  for sprinkling, the exchange of leavened bread [the Lord's Table] for the unleavened disc of the Roman Sun-God and on and on.  Let’s take a look at Christ Mass—-

Christmas

Christmas [Christ Mass] is a tradition assimilated into Christendom early in Church history.  It was originally called by its pagan name, “the Venerable DAY of the SUN”, and was celebrated on December 25th. In pagan culture, it was believed that the Sun God [called Rah or Mithra] became ill as the winter season grew on.  The days grew shorter and shorter. The winter solstice approached which was symptomatic of the distress of Rah/Mithra.  The Solstice signaled a time when the Sun God would begin his yearly recovery.  The days grew longer, and there was great celebration, which in time, evolved into——-

  • Gift giving
  • Singing [caroling]
  • Decorated evergreen trees
  • Evergreen boughs—-representing the coming of spring
  • Mistletoe—-to ward off evil spirits
  • Yule logs—-to burn away evil spirits from the past
  • Christmas bells—–heralding the death of Satan at Christ’s birth [middle ages], and much more.

Contemporary Santa Claus—-

An ancient Germanic legend, gives gifts to NICE people, rides through the air in a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer, climbs down chimneys to give presents on Christmas eve—-[never gets dirty], lives in the far north—- [never gets cold], dresses funny, lives with elves who make toys, has a jolly wife who loves to bake cookies, appears in shopping malls all over America [is budgeted into mall expenses every year].  He seems to be everywhere at the same time [omnipresent?], delivers presents to billions of children all over the world [somewhere between midnight and 4 A.M. on December 25th] and consumes 100,000,000 glasses of milk and two tons of delicious Oreo cookies between midnight and 4 AM with no apparent gastronomical consequences.  Parents teach their children to believe all of this—–of course the children are disappointed when they learn they have been duped.

So what is the purpose of Christmas?  The Bible clearly tells us that every lie is from hell, and that Satan is the author of lies.  Is Christmas a lie?  The purpose of Christmas is akin to the many other traditions and celebrations in the Church whose eternal purpose is to dilute the words of truth found in the Bible.  The author of Christmas  knows what he is doing!  He knows that “time” is on his side.  He knows that with the passing of “time” and in “repetition”, anything can be accepted as truth, or at least an acceptable “tradition”.  We are much like the children who believe in Santa, except that we do not have the honesty of a child, and take notice of the fact that we have been deceived—–and stop perpetuating this ancient deception.  Christmas [December 25th] is not supported in the New Testament nor was it celebrated in the Church for the first three centuries.

Eph.4:25

“Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor; for we are members one of another.”

Colossians 3:9-10.

“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”

Tabernacles—The Birth of Jesus

To begin with; I would like to say that Christians should NOT celebrate “Hebrew Feasts”.  Those celebrations were given SPECIFICALLY to the children of Jacob.  Some [as in Passover] were types and foreshadows of things to come.  Each year there is a gathering of the IGNORANT [Christians] in Jerusalem, to celebrate the FEAST OF TABERNACLES.  This is a “foolish congregation of the foolish”.  They violate the New Testament by attempting to integrate Old Testament Festival Laws into Christianity.  The writer of Hebrews clearly speaks to this flagrant affront to our Testament in Blood.  The only authorized sacraments of the Church are BAPTISM, and THE LORDS TABLE!  Traditionalizing into the Christian culture; a grab bag of the TRADITIONS OF MEN i.e. Ash Wednesday—–the Lenten season, Good Friday, Easter, Christmas, Saints’ Days, Monthly Communions—— add to this, the American traditions of the “Church”, New Years, Veterans’ Day, July 4th, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, and anything that stirs the emotion,  has caused the Church to become an unrecognizable entity in light of the New Testament.  Let me say once again, there are only two authorized sacraments of the Church. They are BAPTISM [shortly after conversion] and the LORDS’ TABLE in the season of Passover.  That’s the way the New Testament Church celebrated their Lord for over two hundred years.

Tabernacles

Now to the message of “TABERNACLES”; What is the significance of this day to the Church?  It is the evening that Christ was born.  I no longer engage in debate on this subject.  The author of the third Gospel of the New Testament devotes two full chapters to the clarity of this fact.  He reiterates in Chapter 3 of the book of Luke, as he declares of Messiah at his baptism—--“and he began to be about THIRTY YEARS OF AGE”!  A grade school child can count backwards “three and one half years” [the length of Christ’s ministry], from that Passover that Christ was sacrificed, and land SMACK DAB—–at TABERNACLES “and Jesus began to be about thirty years old”.  He began to be THIRTY YEARS OLD at his baptism—-AT TABERNACLES!  Adding this to the splendid account of Luke chapters one and two, and the precise point of Messiah’s birth becomes UNDENIABLE.  It all hinges on one little verse in Luke chapter one—“and he [Zechariah] was of the ORDER OF ABIJAH”!  The “ORDER OF ABIJAH” serves in the Temple in the SIXTH WEEK following Passover.  It was “IN THOSE DAYS” following the coarse of Abija that Elizabeth [John’s mother] conceived .  Nine months later, in the Biblical Passover month of Nisan/Abib, John was born.  Ask any Jew in the world—-“when must Elijah come?”, –and the answer will be the same————“AT PASSOVER”!  John [Elijah] was born at Passover!

Luke 1:17-18

17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Matt 17:12-13

12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

In the SIXTH MONTH of Elizabeth’s pregnancy [Kislev]; a young virgin of the tribe of Judah conceived.  Counting nine months forward from the SIXTH MONTH of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, brings us exactly to TABERNACLES!  An easier way to account is simply to note that Mary’s baby would be born SIX MONTHS after John’s birth AT PASSOVER [Aviv 15]———which brings us exactly to TABERNACLES [Tishri 15] the birth of Messiah when “the Word became flesh and Tabernacled among us” [John 1:14]!

  • Where else would the Lamb of God be born than a stable?
  • Where else should Christ be born, than in a succa [tabernacle], a temporary dwelling place away from his heavenly home?
  • Where else should he be laid than a Manger [feeding trough] since he is the Bread of Life?
  • What other place should he be born than Bet-La hem--the City of Bread, for he is the Bread of Life?
  • When should he be conceived other than Chanukah [Kislev, late December]—the festival of Light, for he is the Light of the World.
  • Who should adore him but Sheppard’s, for he is our great Sheppard.
  • When should Messiah be born other than “the Season of our Joy”
  • Isn’t this a more lovely story than that that Romish comedy called “christmas”?

In our family, and in our fellowship, we recognize the truth about the birth of Jesus. We set aside one evening per year to reflect on that blessed event.  The moon is always full on that evening, and gives a luminous testimony of what God has done for mankind, when the “WORD BECAME FLESH AND TABERNACLED AMONG US [John 1:14]”.

NO GAUDY TREE——NO GIFTS———NO CROWDED SHOPPING MALLS——–NO SQUABLES OVER PARKING SPACE——NO DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE——– NO SANTA—–NO DRUNKENNESS and loss of life from auto accidents——–and no one to compromise God’s Word.  Just a full moon, blessed peace, and the confident assurance that God is magnificent .

THIS MATTER WILL NOT BE SKIRTED IN THE MILLENNIAL REIGN of Christ

Zech 14:16

16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.

 Lame EXCUSES about Christmas

I’ve heard it a hundred times, those lame excuses about why it is important to celebrate Christmas, why it’s ok to perpetuate this ancient hoax.  Everybody knows it’s a fake, but few are willing to confront the problem.  Excuses abound.   The most common excuses are perpetuated by preachers and Church leaders.  It goes like this—-”there are many lost souls who would never attend Church except on Christmas or Easter Sunday.  It’s important to reach these poor lost souls with the message of the Gospel and Christmas is a very good time to accomplish this.  We use Christmas and Easter as evangelistic tools”.  To this I would simply reply—–

Eph 1:3-6

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

The same people who teach predestination, will use  Christmas to continue to promote  a holiday not supported in scripture.  One’s eternal destiny does not hang on whether or not you utilize Christmas as an “evangelistic tool”.  God has pre-ordained those whom he has chosen before the foundation of the world.  He [Christ] hardly needs a myth to save those who have been chosen in him before the earth was created.

Eph 4:23-25

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

  • Is Christmas the truth?  If not, according to this scriptural admonition, you must “put it off” and tell the truth.

That other famous excuse goes like this——-”Since the Bible does not actually tell us when Christ was born, don’t you think it important for us to have a special day to celebrate the Lord’s birth?”  To this I reply—–”the Bible is very clear regarding the birth of Jesus.  Luke has devoted three chapters of the New Testament to the truth about the savior’s birth, as I have already shown.  This is just one more religious tactic to perpetuate the traditions of men and to hold those traditions in higher esteem than the Word of God.  It is “the TRUTH that sets us free”—–NOT TRADITION!”   Danny McDowell      [copywrite]

Thank you for your website and it’s clear teachings. It is helping to free me up from the untruth of the harlots daughters. Thank you for the teaching of the two things we should keep Baptism, and the Lord’s Table.
